One Fine Day in March
It was so incredibly nice this weekend! Temps right around 65 and no rain. Gorgeous! Xander took full advantage of this yesterday. First, he had to break in his new rain boots (more like barn boots, really) by jumping in the puddles in the driveway. His pants were soaked!!
Then out came the bike for a few speedy runs from the top of the driveway. Xander is much more at ease on the bike this year, starting his run from almost the very top of the driveway. We're probably going to have to adjust the seat, though, since he's grown since last summer. Doesn't he look cool with his SpongeBob shades on?
Up next: some baseball. Xander's hitting has gotten really good, but we're going to need to work on throwing and catching before T-ball starts back up again this year. I made him use the wiffle ball, because I have this fear of being hit in the face with the regular baseball. Did I mention I'm not a sports person?
Xander finished up the day with Joe, learning how to cast the fishing rod he got for his birthday last year (still sealed up in the box). Once he got casting down, Joe would go out on the lawn and try to catch the bobber, making Xander work extra hard to reel it back in. Neither Joe nor I fish, so we'll have to think of something to get Xander some actual fishing time this year. (Calling Uncle Eli...calling Uncle Eli...)
It was a really nice day, and we all had fun. I'm so glad that Spring is finally here!!

Love Me Some BBQ!
Our cool temps and morning frost have morphed back into Summer temps again. Yesterday it was around 85 degrees, sunny and just gorgeous. So naturally it was the perfect day to BBQ.
Joe dragged out the trusty Weber Q and grilled up some burgers and dogs (Nathan's hotdogs only for this girl!). There's nothing like the smell of BBQ drifting on the wind! Hopefully this will be the year we finally put in the little BBQ patio next to our front steps, so the BBQ can stay out all summer. Right now we have to drag it out of the house and down the steps every time we want to grill.
Love me some BBQ, and that's no lie!

Misty Morning Pics
It was a misty morning over at the Big Blue Barn today, which is always pretty and often heralds a great day once the fog burns off. (70+ degrees and blue skies, in case you're wondering!) I took the camera up the driveway again this morning and snapped a few shots while Xander and I waited for the bus.

Worm Watch 2009
If you've never paid a visit to me over at the Big Blue Barn, then you may not know that I have a very long dirt driveway. When it's rainy, we get lots of earthworms and slugs out on the driveway, and it's been rainy all this week.
Fact: Xander is afraid of earthworms. So every day on our way up the driveway to wait for the school bus, Xander has a death grip on my hand and is literally tip-toeing. It's pretty funny! I have to point out all the slugs and earthworms so he doesn't step on them. (Or, presumably, so they don't get the drop on him.)
This morning we were also looking for worm trails. I myself don't mind the worms, so long as someone isn't waving them in my face. And Xander doesn't seem to care about the slugs, they don't freak him out the same way the earthworms do.All I can say is, it's going to be a long rainy season at the Big Blue Barn!

Summer Already?
It's hot.
I know I shouldn't be complaining, since we had snow this time last week. But it's supposed to be up to 90 again today, and I just need a slower transition from cold to hot. Where's the Spring weather??
Xander's more than happy about the temperature change, though. This weekend he was being a "Soggy Ghostbuster" with the hose, and had me get out the sprinkler so he could play around in it. I just happened to have my camera on hand (shocking, I know!) and took these cute pics. If I have to be too hot too soon, at least I can be entertained!

Ah...Spring!
It's finally feeling like Spring here at the Big Blue Barn. Xander and I took a walk the other day, and it was so nice seeing flowers in bloom, especially on the crabapple trees. The weather has been up and down for a while, but hopefully now it will be settling down and warming up. Xander has been eagerly waiting for our neighbor to get his pool set up for the season (me, not so much!) and I'm just looking forward to having more light in the evenings in case I want to take a walk, and being able to ditch my socks for a few months.
What are you looking forward to most this Spring/Summer?
