2nd Generation Fishies

Okay, if you've been following along with our fish saga you know that we lost most of our tank this winter after two seperate power outages. We had some big ole fish, including two Oscars named Mojo and Pudge. A month or so ago Joe finally got another Oscar, which he named Nemo. This cute little guy was killed by the only two fish we had that survived the original tank. I think we had Nemo less than a week.

Last week Joe came home from Oneonta with four new fish. Two new Oscars (Xander named them Mojo II and Pudge II), a Jack Dempsey, and an algae sucker (please don't ask me to try and spell what kind of fish he is!). So far the Oscars are holding their own, and the Jack Dempsey is keeping everyone in line. Now we'll just have to see how long they stay friends, since our last Oscars used to fight each other all the time once they grew to a certain size.
Still, it's nice to see the tank full of activity again.

Another Tooth Gone!

Xander popped out his other loose tooth this morning. Now he had a big gap in his smile, since it was right next to the other one! Too funny! He went right away and put it under his pillow for the tooth fairy. (The fairy's financial manager has to make a bank run today!)

This should be the last tooth for a while, none of the rest are loose. Doesn't he look cute??

Loch Ness Monster

As soon as I got home yesterday, Xander was waiting for me with news of a research project that I would be involved in. See, his class started a unit on dinosaurs this week. And his Blockbuster movie-of-the-week is Scooby-Doo and the Loch Ness Monster. Apparently, Xander and his teacher had a bit of a disagreement about whether or not Nessie is a dinosaur.

This led to lots of picture drawing. Xander drew countless Loch Ness monster scenarios, some involving unfortunate boaters. And he was so excited when I got out two books that had pictures of the Loch Ness monster in them. I had to copy one of the pages for him, and he took that, his pictures, and the other book to school today to show his teacher.

It was so much fun seeing him so involved in his little research project! He did most of the writing on his pictures, too - sitting there sounding everything out. So cute! I can't wait to go home today and find out what his teacher thought!

Search for the Perfect Guacamole

This is all Anne's fault! Ever since she took me to that Mexican restaurant in October, I've been obsessed with guacamole. My mom finally hooked me up with a recipe, which I tried out yesterday. Two pacakges of cream cheese were involved, and the results were...not great.

Xander and Joe ate some, but it tasted almost the same as just taking a bite out of the cream cheese brick and I couldn't get excited about it. So now I'm searching for a restaurant-type guacamole I can make at home. If you have a recipe, I beg you to share it! And if I come up with a good one, I'll post it on here.

Mmmm....guacamole!
