Xander has lately been on an Alice in Wonderland kick. He's been watching the movie we have, which is the 1980s TV miniseries full of people like Sammy Davis Jr., Martha Raye, and Lloyd Bridges. I asked him what he likes so much about the movie, and he says it's the Open Season preview that's on there. What a doof! It's a pretty long movie, and he watches it all. Even knows the songs at this point.
So when I showed him that I had the book, Xander was eager to start reading it. We're reading a chapter each night, and I'm wondering how long that will last because it's a very confusing read. And Xander keeps waiting for the parts from the movie, which aren't always there. Still, I'm glad to see him so interested in classical literature, even if it's mostly to watch the cheesy Jabberwocky! And just because I happen to know that poem, here it is for your classical education today - at no extra charge!
'Twas brillig and the slithy toves
did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
All mimsy were the borogoves,
and the mome raths outgrabe.
Beware the Jabberwock, my son
the jaws the bite, the claws that catch.
Beware the jub-jub bird and shun
the frumious bandersnatch.
So took he vorpol sword in hand.
Long time the manxom foe he sought.
So rested he by the tum-tum tree,
and stood awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought he stood
the Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
came wiffling through the tulgey wood
and burbled as it came.
One, two, one, two, and through and through
the vorpol blade went snicker snack.
He left it dead and with its head
he went galumphing back.
And hast though slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy.
Oh frabjous day, callou callay!
He chortled in his joy.
'Twas brillig and the slithy toves
did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
All mimsy were the borogoves,
and the mome raths outgrabe.
did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
All mimsy were the borogoves,
and the mome raths outgrabe.

Bravo! It's a tribute to your intelligence that you still know that poem by heart. Next up, Moby Dick! Love ya, M.
